Adam Levine 'Too Scared' To Watch 'American Horror Story'

Maroon 5 leading man owns up to a fear of the creepy FX show that he will appear on next season.

Adam Levine is on board to play one-half of "The Lovers" in the new season of FX's super-creepy cult series "American Horror Story." But he might want to do one thing before he hits the set to work on season two: Like, you know, actually watch the show.

"I'm still too scared to watch it," he confessed when he sat down with MTV News earlier this week to chat about the new Maroon 5 album, Overexposed. "But I'm gonna try and beat my fear of really creepy, scary things like that by doing it. I think that's a good way to tackle that fear."

Not only is Levine scared of things that go bump in the night, he's also somewhat afraid of the show's creator, Ryan Murphy, who's already ordered the ab-tastic leading man not to divulge much of anything about his character to anyone.

"I can tell you nothing 'cause Ryan Murphy's already yelled at me like six times," Levine said. "Ryan, I'm not going to say anything. Don't worry. He texted me the other day like, 'Shut up, stop talking about it,' 'cause he likes to shroud everything in secrecy."

While fans may not know what to expect from Levine, given the show's penchant for having their attractive leading men appear sans shirts, we imagine that Murphy might tap into one of Levine's greatest assets. And when MTV News spoke to "AHS" writer Tim Minear recently, he explained that while this new season will take place in the 1960s, Levine will play a character that serves as a bridge to the present.

"Let's say that Adam's character is kind of a nod to contemporary sensibilities, as opposed to something from the mid-century," he explained.

Season one of the FX horror series took place in sunny Los Angeles, which served as the backdrop to Murder House and its disturbed inhabitants, both living and dead. But season two will take place in the last century on the East Coast with a mental institution as the locale for all the creepiness. "AHS" fan favorite Jessica Lange will be back and calling the shots. Other returning castmates include Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe.

Life Before Baby and Moving Before Baby Arrives | Being Pregnant

292530 428018163875520 1890757746 n 300x300 Saying Farewell to a Home Our Child Will Never Know

The decision to move came somewhat out of left field for us. We knew it was something we should do before the baby arrived. And since we?re not even pregnant yet, we would have likely been fine in our current apartment for quite some time. But, alas, we?re moving in two days.

As I pack what?s collectively become Sara?s and mine over the past two years, as I take down the pictures from the walls, and as I walk around an apartment that?s slowly looking less and less like home, it?s strange to think that our child will never know the home in which she or he first became a twinkle star.

This is the first place Sara and I lived together. Our first home together. It?s where we became moms to the four-legged kind when we rescued our sweet Darla. It?s where we celebrated our first Christmas. Had our first marital fight. Ordered Thai food every Monday night. It?s where we first learned who sucks at washing dishes and who has a terrible habit of not brushing her teeth before bed. This is where we lived when her parents agreed to meet me after two years and ten days of loving their daughter. This is where we lived when I asked Sara to marry me. This is where we lived when we decided to have a baby.

As I look at the becoming-bare walls, I try to remember them as they were ? remembering the first days after we moved in. Sitting in the window seat, looking out on the street, waiting for Sara to come home from work. I remember when the city had to replace a pipeline; they needed to undo the cobblestone street stone by stone. The pile of cobblestones sat on the sidewalk for days while they repaired the pipeline. One evening, while walking our dog, I told Sara how much I?d love one of those cobblestones as a keepsake of our first home together. She laughed at me.

?Babe, it?s just a brick,? she said.

I always have been the sentimental type.

I box up our dishes. Pots. Pans. Boxes of tampons (Yes, we have boxes. Two women in the house, what can I say). I toss clothes I haven?t worn since I met Sara. And I hire a moving company. I?ve moved an outrageous amount of times in my 34 years of life, some by choice, others having been decided for me through breakups ? yes, I?ve been dumped; can you imagine? ? but all moves have always accompanied a constant struggle of becoming who I am.

Except for this move. There is no struggle.

But there is an entirely new feeling that I can?t quite pinpoint. It?s not exactly sadness. Perhaps reflection of the future. Can you do that? Can you reflect from the future? I don?t know, but that?s what it feels like. I think of so many of ?our first? memories in this home while I pack, and it?s a strange ? I do not know what other word to use to describe it ? feeling. To know that these are times and here are memories that our child will never know. Sure, we can share the stories. But this is life without our baby. So much is about to change. And while I so much so look forward to the future with the family we are about to create, I don?t ever want to forget these moments.

I am glad we?re moving before the baby, before the pregnancy even. I?m glad I have all of myself to focus on this time, and don?t have the added stress and emotions of doing any of this while I?m pregnant. I?m glad I can recall everything this home has meant to us over the years, and put each memory in its proper box.

But mostly, I?m glad Sara surprised me one day with a stolen cobblestone from the first street on which we ever called home.

commercial outdoor power equipment - Commercial Power ...

When used properly, commercial sprayers can help groundskeepers maintain their properties more efficiently. Sprayers can hold various solutions and chemicals to control pests, plant growth, bacteria and other elements that affect a property's landscaping. When solutions are applied with a sprayer wand, this ensures even application which can be regulated by the person using the equipment.

Solutions There is a variety of chemicals and solutions that can be applied to any property. The application of pesticides to destroy insects and molds or fungi on plants is important to properties where appearance and health of plant materials is paramount. For example, shrubbery that is chewed up by moths, insects and other bugs can be salvaged with organic and chemical applications. Spreading them evenly in specific areas can prevent an additional problem or save the plant from dying. Spraying grass, plants, trees or surfaces can also act as an inhibitor to keep insects such as ants or ticks from congregating and infesting an area. When using professional sprayers, groundskeepers should follow all regulations regarding pesticides and pesticide applications. The sprayer containers should be used for only one type of chemical and labeled accordingly. The container should also be cleaned regularly in between uses. This prevents any cross-contamination or chemical reactions which can cause safety risks and environmental hazards. When a solution is added to the sprayer, some models mark the tanks in metric measurements as well as standard gallons and pints to ensure the proper mixture.

Comfort Using professional sprayers for several hours at a time can be taxing. There are many features now available to make the user more comfortable. On backpack models, for example, the shoulder straps should have cushioned adjustable straps. Comfort grips on handles and ergonomic designs for handheld and backpack models also make the job easier.

Styles Commercial sprayers are available in two main styles, handheld or backpack. Like many types of commercial outdoor power equipment, many workers prefer to use a backpack. This evenly distributes the weight and prevents the user from getting blisters or hand cramps. Many backpacks have a support frame on the bottom that makes it easier to set down securely in an upright position when the applicator is taking a break to reload or to examine an area. For those with back problems or who have a lighter body weight, the handheld version is preferred. Handheld styles usually offer grips on the handles, which increases safety and makes it easier to maneuver the machine.

'Panenka' penalties find favor at Euro 2012

By PAUL LOGOTHETIS

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 7:23 p.m. ET June 27, 2012

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) -"Panenka" penalties seem to be in fashion at the European Championship.

Spain center back Sergio Ramos used the audacious soft chip on Wednesday to help the defending champions beat Portugal in their semifinal penalty shootout at Donbass Arena.

The technique is named after its pioneer, Antonin Panenka, who used it to win the 1976 European Championship for Czechoslovakia against West Germany in a penalty shootout.

Ramos' spot kick came just three days after Andrea Pirlo scored with a similar "Panenka" chip to the center of goal in Italy's quarterfinal shootout victory over England.

"They are very fashionable right now," Spain coach Vicente del Bosque said.

Ramos, whose previous penalty before Wednesday was a glaring miss for Real Madrid against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals, will never forget it.

"I like that I was able to score from something that will be remembered," Ramos said. "It's the last thing that a goalkeeper would expect. You have to be confident to take it and in the run-up I saw the keeper nearly certain to dive one way, and fortune followed."

There have been other famous "Panenkas" through the years, like Zinedine Zidane's extravagant chip past Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in the 2006 World Cup final, which France eventually lost on penalties.

Spain is the only team apart from West Germany to return to the final as holders, and Ramos' chip certainly put the world champions in control of the shootout.

With Spain 3-2 ahead after Ramos' penalty, Portugal defender Bruno Alves hit his penalty off the crossbar. Cesc Fabregas then converted his kick to give Spain a spot in the final in Kiev on Sunday against either Italy or Germany.

"I can't prove it, but these are things that can have an influence on the opponent," Portugal coach Paulo Bento said through a translator.

It was redemption for Ramos, whose miss in April left Bastian Schweinsteiger to win it 3-1 and put Bayern Munich into the Champions League final.

Ramos said that moment went through his mind beforehand and provided added motivation.

"When you can rebound from criticism, that's when you are strongest," Ramos said. "(The coach) trusted in me, he knew I was capable of scoring. He's been coaching for a lot years now and he knows I'm a little crazy."

Ramos has always been one for fashion - he cut his trademark mane before the start of the tournament. Even arriving for the post-match news conference to talk about his expressive goal was no different.

"Sorry I was late," Ramos said, "I wanted to clean up a bit."

The success of iPhone made Apple introduce four advanced versions and the reason behind its success was that the device supported the development of simple apps which made it even more amazing. With the iPhone becoming successful, the demand for iPhone Apps is also increasing. It was during July 2008 when the number of apps per month were 500 and today there are more than 350,000 apps available in the apps store and the store has noticed a remarkable number of downloads from the iPhone users. The biggest benefit that iPhone users received was that the device supported third party apps and this revolutionized the way these devices used to function.

The main reason behind popularity of this device is that it comes with different features and among all the most important one is its ability to customize. iPhone applications give a pleasant surfing experience and besides this the device can also be used as a handy media player, for sending and receiving voice messages and calls, camera, for accessing internet and other social media sites. Various applications such as gaming, business, utilities, social, travel booking, programming and other productive apps can be developed. For game lovers there?s a good news as iPhone provides a lot of games including 3d game applications. Its features can be easily customized and this is what arises the need for iPhone app development.

Thanks, to the iPhone app development companies that add life to this products and makes sure that users can reap maximum benefit from it .Though some companies find iPhone app development as an expensive affair but it is for sure that in long term they can make a fortune out of it. Once the development is done you can sell the app and earn from it. The most exciting part is that iPhone app development just minimum hardware, one of it being intel-based Apple Mac machine.

Today, there are a number of free apps for iPhone and the ones that are charged aren?t that expensive. This is the reason why iPhone users are attracted towards downloading apps. Today, app development has become a booming field and just like software development even app development is being outsourced to a few countries. But if there?s someone who doesn?t have time and resources for approaching iPhone app development companies then App store is always an option from where one can get the latest version of apps.

To conclude it can be said that iPhone is one of the best pieces of technology and is now being used by most of the people. With the increase in demand of this device, the demand for applications is equally increasing and so looking for relevant iPhone App Development companies becomes a difficult job.

Google-built machine learns to find cats on the Internet

22 hrs.

An artificial brain that Googlers built with 16,000 computer processors and a nifty algorithm has taught itself to recognize images of cats posted on the Internet.

While cats provide web surfers endless hours of giggles, the feat of the so-called neural network is a serious step forward in the realm of machine learning, the New York Times reports.?

The network is among the largest of its type ever built, thanks in part to falling costs and abundance of computers available for research.?

The Googlers fed their artificial brain 10 million images that were randomly selected from YouTube videos. Given a chance to see a random slice of what we put on the Internet, the machine followed our lead and learned to find cats.

?We never told it during the training, ?This is a cat,?? Google fellow Jeff Dean told the New York Times. ?It basically invented the concept of cat.?

The results show that ?it is possible to train a face detector without having to label images as containing a face or not,? the team notes?in a paper on the research posted on arXiv.org and presented this week at a conference in Scotland.

As we build ever bigger and more sophisticated artificial brains, they could help improve image search, speech recognition and machine language translation ??services that Google provides.

Tips For Successful Commercial Real Estate Management | Property ...

So, you feel now is the right time to get into buying and selling commercial real estate? You are probably wondering just where to begin, but relax, that is why this article was written. The following tips will help make you more confident in your commercial property searches.

When you lease a commercial site it is very important to that pest control is kept up-to-date. This is important in less desirable locations where rodents and/or bugs are an issue. Have your rental agent inform you of any associated policies for pest control.

If you are involved in renting commercial properties, try your best to keep them filled. You?re the one who has to pay to keep the building maintained, and if no one?s renting them, you?re wasting your money. Consider why your property has driven away tenants and try to rectify the situation.

One of the most important things you should be aware of is emergency maintenance. One way to develop such a list is to ask current commercial investors who they use in the event of an emergency repair. You should not only commit emergency numbers to memory and post them in a conspicuous location, but you should also know how long it takes various workers to get to your office in an emergency. Make an emergency plan once you have this information. If a flood, fire or break-in interrupts your normal business day, you need to have a plan in place so that you can re-open as soon as possible.

Visit the commercial real estate properties that you are interested in. You can even take a contractor with you to provide expert advice. Start negotiations by making a preliminary proposal. Make sure you evaluate any counteroffers well enough before you make any purchasing decisions.

When having your real estate inspected (as you should), always ask for the qualifications of the inspectors. There are more than a few people working in without certification in the pest removal and insect fields, so make especially certain to ask for proof of certification from them. This can help you avoid headaches after the sale.

Always be in a position to understand, and move on a deal that is beneficial to you. People who deal in real estate on a professional level can spot a great deal immediately. Part of their expert knowledge includes knowing when not to make a deal and preparing an exit strategy to extricate themselves. They can see when repairs are needed. They are aware of how to calculate how much risks are liable to cost, and they are aware of how to ensure all of the financial goals that are set are met.

The environment of your property is an important factor. You may be liable for cleanup of a property that has been environmentally damaged from prior use. Is the property you?re considering purchasing located in a flood zone? Make sure you think it over! It?s possible to get information specific to the locale you?re considering by contacting environmental assessment agencies in that area.

As you look for opportunities on the commercial real estate market, you should always be patient and rational. Don?t rush to make an investment. A poorly thought out investment might soon give you many regrets. It may take more than a year to get the right investment in the real estate market.

Make sure you never underestimate anyone when it comes to real estate, not your private lenders or your investors, know what everyone is capable of. For example, those in your network can give you the ?inside scoop? on properties, even those that are unlisted.

Make sure to find your lender before making an offer on any commercial property. Consult with friends and fellow investors to manifest a short list that includes the optimum lenders of your community. Do some research and have a lender in mind before starting the purchase process. If you take the time to be fully prepared, your loan process will be more efficient, and the odds of qualifying for the loan are higher.

It is important to be aware of all of the environmental issues and obligations related to your property. It?s a good idea to thoroughly research the property and make sure it is free from hazardous waste material before purchasing it. Regardless of whether or not you caused the problem, as the landowner it is your responsibility to fix it.

|If you are looking for a business property, always think larger than you currently need. Try to invest into a commercial property which has room to grow to avoid shopping in just a few years again.

Look for properties with several units. More units equal greater opportunity to earn more money. A lot of investors are unwilling to even bother with properties with few units, and most experts also suggest that more units generally means more money.

Only work with companies that are sincerely interested in the success of their customers. If you don?t do this, you might get taken advantage of or wind up paying much more money over time.

If you are presented with a standard commercial lease form, do not sign it immediately. Take your time. Some real estate firms will add questionable requirements to these documents, and because of the length of these leases such additions are often overlooked. By reading the lease in full, you will be protecting your organization from potential problems in the future.

Whether you are buying or selling, don?t shy away from negotiation. Make your voice heard and strive for fair market value pricing.

Try to carefully limit the situations that are specified as event of default criteria prior to executing a lease for commercial property. This lowers the chance that the person renting will fail to uphold their end of the lease. You, of course, would not desire this to occur.

Use your digital camera to take pictures of the property. Make certain your photos highlight specific defects such as carpet spots, wall holes and bathroom discolorations.

You can find different ways of saving on costs of repair when it comes to cleanup. If you possess an ownership interest, you may not be fully responsible for cleanup costs. The costs for environmental cleanup and proper waste disposal can be exceedingly high. Find a company that does environmental assessments and have them do an analysis and report. These reports may initially cost quite a bit; however, they can protect your investment in the long run.

Ensure that you have a singular investment focus at any given time. For example, you may choose to work mostly with apartment complexes, strip malls, undeveloped land or restaurants. Learn more about all the different types of investment to make good decisions. It is always more advantageous to be great at one thing than sub-par with many.

Do not hire a broker without finding out more about their past experience within commercial property. Look for someone who knows the area you are interested in. Once you?ve determined the broker is right for your needs, make sure any agreement into which you enter is an exclusive one.

Make sure you have sufficient utility to access on any commercial piece of real estate. Look for access to water, electricity, gas an a sewer or anything specific to what you intend to use this property for.

A good plan, and rent considerations, will be important to consider when getting a new lease. Decide on a rent amount before your first meeting with prospective new tenants. Once you have set your desired benchmarks and targets, you will be sure to meet them if you stick to this strategy. Therefore, you will prove to have a profitable commercial real estate investment.

Take digital pictures of the place. Make certain your photos highlight specific defects such as carpet spots, wall holes and bathroom discolorations.

Changing interest rates are a big threat to people who invest in commercial real estate. The economy makes it likely that a good loan today could be gone tomorrow, so it?s likely that an investor who waits too long to close a loan could end up having to pay much higher rates. Interest rate fluctuations should be taken into account when evaluating your long-term goals and profits.

If you are new to investing, focus on one investment type at a time. Carefully consider the type of property investment you are interested in and focus your attention on it alone. It?s better to be very good at one particular type of real estate than to be okay at a lot of different types.

If you plan to finance your commercial investments, you must first ensure that you are backed by a competent legal adviser. If something is amiss with your endeavors, you need a great person to clear your name of threats.

If you are going into commercial real estate, it?s best to have multiple sources of cash, including a loan, as well as backing from family and friends. When accepting loans from people you know, sign a contract just like you do when you accept a bank loan. State clearly the terms of the loan. Ideally, every lender should allow you to pay the loan back with interest on a monthly basis. You can also make arrangements in which you give the lender part of the income you receive from the property each month.

Assemble a group of financial backers consisting of fellow professionals, family members, friends, and colleagues. In this way, you will always have someone to turn to when you are in need of financial support. Set your arrangements with these people by drawing up contracts regarding your repayment terms at fixed rates, or possibly exchanging their money for a slice of the property income.

See to it that you initially make use of the right type of financing. Commercial lenders and real estate are much different than simply buying a home. They can be better for you as a borrower. While you do need to put more money down on a commercial loan, you\?re fully protected from personal liability and are permitted to borrow some money to put towards your down payment.

Make sure you are clear about the actual amount of square footage that?s available. Two different metrics are used to measure business space. ?Usable square feet? measures the amount of space available for doing business, while ?total square feet? covers unusable space, including walls. If you know both of these values, things will be easier for you.

Real estate deals must include inspections, so check the credentials of the inspector. Always check the credentials of workers in insect and pest control as many of them are not licensed. By hiring an experienced professional, you?re less likely to run into problems after you buy the property.

In conclusion, you may be looking into commercial real estate for a variety of reasons, but, whatever the reason may be, you surely would like more information on the subject. By implementing some of the tips discussed in the article, you?ll have an edge on improving the profits you make in commercial real estate ventures.

Rockie Fresh Prepping Electric Highway Mixtape

Chicago rapper reveals the title of his latest project exclusively to MTV News.

Chicago has bred plenty of legendary hip-hop artists, but the city's youngest crop of rappers are ready to usher in a new era for the Midwest. Among those leading the pack is Rockie Fresh, who will follow up his January mixtape Driving 88 with a new project titled Electric Highway this fall.

The 21-year-old Southside native has released several notable mixtapes over the past few years, including 2011's The Otherside Redux and this year's Driving 88, which found him collaborating with Casey Veggies and fellow Chi-town rapper King Louie. But Rockie's confident that current recording sessions will result in his best work yet.

"It's called Electric Highway," Rockie told MTV News exclusively, revealing the title. "I always want to do original music even if it's a mixtape, so it's definitely a free album, but all of the records are going to be original. With me getting older and seeing different parts of the world, my content is always going to be evolving, so this is going to be the peak of Rockie Fresh. Out of all of the stuff that I've done, I think this is going to be my best work and I'm really looking forward to dropping it."

Rockie's fans will certainly be looking forward to the project, as will a few industry heavyweights who also have their eye on the young rapper. During a visit to New York City's Hot 97 radio station this week, Maybach Music Group CEO Rick Ross sent a "shout out to the lil' homie Rockie Fresh," adding, "I'm a fan of his music." And even though Rozay confirmed that Rockie hasn't been signed to MMG "as of now," they certainly have a good relationship going.

"That was crazy," Rockie told MTV News just hours after the shout-out from Ross. "Me and him, we've been talking a lot back and forth. That's definitely one of my big homies."

While Rockie continues to explore his label options, you'd better believe that he'll stay buried in his work. While on tour over the past few months, he gave fans the chance to keep up with his everyday grind through the vlog series "Life on the Otherside."

"[It's] to let people know that sh-- is real," he said matter-of-factly. "A lot of people utilize the Internet to stunt and it kind of gets old after a while. I really want people to see my climb, to really respect the work ethic that goes into it, and even for them just to be motivated by it. [It's] to let other young artists know that the struggle is something everybody has to go through. It's not a smooth road, so I just feel like it's dope to really show people the real picture."

Months later, massacre haunts Syrian town

TAFTANAZ, Syria (AP) ? The main street of this once-bustling Syrian farm town now stands eerily quiet, its shops charred black from arson, its shoppers replaced by cats roaming the rubble of homes destroyed by tank fire.

At dawn on April 3, Syrian forces shelled the town in the first volley of what residents say was a massive assault after a string of large protests calling for the end of the regime of President Bashar Assad. Soldiers then stormed in, torching homes and businesses and gunning down residents in the streets. By the time they left on the third day, at least 62 people were dead.

Two months later, the destruction remains, but most residents are gone. Locals estimate that about two-thirds of the town's 15,000 people have left. Most don't expect them to return.

"There is nothing for people to come back to, and they worry that if they rebuild, the army will destroy it again," said resident Bassam Ghazzal, who lost more than 20 members of his extended family in the attack. "People don't want to become refugees twice."

The destruction in Taftanaz, seen by an Associated Press reporter, provides an on-the-ground example of the huge price paid by Syrian communities that have chosen to defy one of the Middle East's most brutal autocracies.

Since the start of the anti-Assad uprising in March 2011, the regime has responded to unrest with brute force, dispatching snipers, troops and tanks to quash dissent. Activists say more than 14,000 people have been killed since, many of them civilians.

In general, the violence has not stopped the uprising, emboldening protesters, galvanizing international condemnation and leading many in the opposition to take up arms.

Taftanaz tells a different story. It is a place where overwhelming force appears to have not only crushed a burgeoning protest movement but struck a blow against a community that may never recover.

In many ways, Taftanaz, a jumble of simple concrete homes surrounded by golden wheat fields some 15 kilometers (9 miles) from the northern city of Idlib, tells the story of Syria's uprising, writ small.

Residents had long complained of state neglect and corruption that left many living in poverty, Ghazzal said. So when protesters inspired by the successful uprisings against autocrats in Tunisia and Egypt took to the streets in Syria, they followed along, first demonstrating for change in April 2011.

Local security officers quickly ended the protest, but the town organized more, sparking further crackdowns and arrest campaigns by regime authorities, Ghazzal said.

The Syrian army raided the village three times in the next four months, Ghazzal said. During a June raid, Ghazzal's cousin was shot dead at a regime checkpoint while trying to flee, making him the first of the town's "martyrs."

Others followed. Some in the town took up arms, and an October clash between the army and local rebels killed five residents. Other residents buried them and held another protest the same day, Ghazzal said.

Then all was quiet until April 3, when tanks shelled the town from four sides before armored cars brought in dozens of soldiers who dragged civilians from their homes and gunned them down in the streets, witnesses said. The soldiers also looted, destroyed and torched hundreds of homes, bringing some down on their owners' heads.

Videos shot at the time show tanks posted near the town's entrance and huge columns of smoke rising throughout the area. Photos of the dead show bodies torn apart by shrapnel, charred by fire, crushed under rubble or with bullet holes in their chests, foreheads and temples.

Local activist Abdullah Ghazzal, a university student in English, says 62 people were killed during the attack, four of them burned beyond recognition. Two others have never been found.

Residents are unsure what sparked the assault. The town had only a small rebel presence, though fighters from the area had killed soldiers at nearby checkpoints or destroyed regime tanks, said local fighter Sahir Schaib. Rebels also blew up nine regime tanks as they left the town, mostly with homemade bombs planted along the roads.

He suspects the regime sought to stop the town from emerging as a protest center, especially since it is near a military base.

"There were lots of villages around that had just started protesting and they wanted to say, 'This is what we can do to you,'" Schaib said. "They committed the massacre to teach the whole region a lesson."

The Syrian government rarely comments on its military actions and blames the uprising on armed terrorists acting out a foreign conspiracy. It bars most reporters from working in the country, and the AP was able to visit Taftanaz only after entering from a neighboring country.

The price of Taftanaz's defiance is obvious around town. Homes have been reduced to rubble. Most shops along the town's main street are shuttered, their thick metal doors scarred by shrapnel and gunfire. Black soot lines the windows of others. Yet others lie collapsed in piles of bricks and mortar.

"They took what they took and burned what they burned," said Abu Eissa Ghazzal, 75, another member of the extended Ghazzal family. Standing near his torched grocery store on the ground floor of a three-story building, he despaired for the future.

"They didn't leave me a single nail," he said.

His younger brother had built the building after working for two decades in Saudi Arabia and lived with his family in the top two floors, Ghazzal said. Now all had been torched, and his brother and family had fled to a refugee camp in Turkey.

His older brother lived across the alley and refused to leave his home when the army came. When the attack was over, rescue teams found the 81-year-old man's body still in his home, burned to a crisp.

"Now there is nobody left," he said. "Who is going to rebuild all of this, now that all of those with children have left?"

The army has not returned since the April raid. Local activists still organize protests, though many fewer people attend, and rumors of impending military incursions often terrify residents.

Most of the dead rest in a long mass grave on the village's east side, their names scrawled in marker on cinder block headstones. Preceding most names is the honorific "hero martyr." One inscription for the unidentified bodies reads simply "four people."

"Most of them were my friends," said Abdullah Ghazzal, the English student, walking among the graves. He pointed out the grave of his 44-year-old brother, shot dead that day.

"They also burned down his house," he said.

Ben Hubbard spent two weeks inside Syria with a team of AP journalists. Taftanaz was among the hardest-hit areas the team visited, but many other cities and towns also have suffered heavy damage.

Shared households accounted for 18.7 percent of all U.S. households in 2010. That's up from 17 percent of all households in 2007, the Census Bureau said.

More adults have been moving in with their families or seeking out roommates instead of creating a home of their own, and the most obvious culprit is the difficult economy.

The number of shared households increased by 11.4 percent, to 22 million, between 2007 and 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau said in a report released Wednesday.

Shared households accounted for 18.7 percent of all U.S. households in 2010. That?s up from 17 percent of all households in 2007, the Census Bureau said.

A shared household includes any adult who is not in school and has moved in with a family member or other adult that they aren?t romantically involved with.

Census Bureau researchers said they didn?t ask specifically why people were moving in with mom, dad or another roommate, but that the results suggest it was a way of coping with the weak economy.

That?s what prompted Brad McGarr, now 26, to get a roommate.

McGarr graduated from high school in 2004, landed a good job in the Phoenix area and was soon settled into a nice apartment of his own.

Then he lost his job in 2009, and was financially devastated by a long stint of unemployment. He lived with family for a while and then landed a job as a technical support specialist in the Denver area. Between the high cost of living and the toll his unemployment stint took, he felt like he had no choice but to get a roommate.

McGarr said sharing the rent helped him to get back on his feet, financially. A few months ago, he moved out of the roommate situation and in with his girlfriend. He said it feels like he?s restarting after the devastation of the recession.

?I think it?s starting to get to the point where I?m having more of a normal adult life,? he said.

Many people in their twenties and thirties are dealing with those kinds of setbacks.

Nearly half of the adults who moved into someone else?s house between 2007 and 2010 were 25 to 34 years old, the Census researchers found. About 10 million people in that age were living in someone else?s house in 2010, up from 8.5 million in 2007.

That?s an age when people are typically starting out in their adult life, finding a place of their own or getting married and starting a family. Instead, economists say many are hobbled by the tight job market and student loan debt. Sharing a house is a symptom of those problems.

?People are living at home because either they?re underemployed or they?re unemployed, and that?s because times are tough,? said Patrick Newport, U.S. economist with IHS Global Insight.

Many people of that age appear to be moving back in with mom and dad. A separate report from Pew Research found that more than two in 10 people in that age range were living in a multigenerational household. Pew referred to them as the ?boomerang generation? because they?re coming back to the family home.

The fact that more people are sharing a home rather than striking out on their own is more bad news for the beleaguered housing market, which is still struggling from the effect of the massive housing bust. Newport expects it to have a ripple effect on the housing sector for quite some time.

Still, he said some of the money people aren?t spending on housing is likely being diverted to other parts of the economy, if they are drawing a paycheck at all.

?Instead of spending their money on rent or on a mortgage, they?ll buy computers or they?ll pay off their bills,? he said.

Alistair Overeem: ?I?m all natural?

UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem really wants the world to believe he is a clean fighter, even though he is currently suspended for having elevated testosterone levels before his planned fight with UFC champ Junior dos Santos.

Earlier this week, Overeem tweeted he will be back in December, but UFC executive Lorenzo Fertitta said not so fast. Overeem responded by tweeting about a drug test.

"I'm doing a drug test today to build confidence with the Nevada state athletic commission and because I respect and appreciate the UFC," Overeem wrote. "And to let junior know I am a clean fighter, I'm all natural Junior.. and I am coming for you."

Well, that's a nice gesture, Alistair, but guess what? You're supposed to be clean. You don't get any medals for testing clean on random date of your choosing. This is the equivalent of teenager cleaning the house after being grounded. Though the parents may be pleased to come home to a sparkling house, they're not going to forget about the raging party that happened there days before.

The NAC isn't going to forget about his suspension, and the UFC isn't going to forget how he derailed the main event of one of their biggest cards in 2012.

RIM outlines how Android developers can monetize on PlayBook OS 2.1 with in-app purchases

Android Central

We're definitely in the middle of developer season right now across the Mobile Nations. While Google I/O might not kick off for another week, Android's competitors in the mobile space have all now shown off their latest wares and developer tools. One which Android developers may have so far overlooked, is the improved Android Runtime coming to BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1, of which the developer beta was recently released

Having learned all about the Android functionality back at Devcon Europe in Amsterdam, the potential extra revenue stream for Android developers was pretty impressive. After all, when is extra revenue not going to be impressive? But, that said, functionality in the current Android Runtime offering is quite limited. There is no access to the camera for example, and no ability to offer an in-app purchase model. Both of those are addressed in PlayBook OS 2.1, and RIM has taken to their developer blog to offer up the lowdown on how to make your in-app purchase models work with BlackBerry App World.

Especially with BlackBerry 10 on the horizon, the door for Android developers over there appears to be opening ever further. RIM boasts great things about how much moolah their registered developers can make. There are some amazing Android developers out there who deserve every opportunity to be financially rewarded for their work. RIM just gave them another.

If you're an Android Developer and this sounds like an opportunity for you, head on over to the source link below for the full rundown. There's a whole week to kill until I/O after all.
